Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion is a non-surgical exfoliating treatment which gives the patient a refreshed, glowing skin. A stream of fine crystals is used to gently remove dull, dead skin cells in order to reveal fresh, invigorated skin.
After treatment, a soothing moisturizer is applied. It is recommended that patients not apply make up to their skin for the day.
Microdermabrasion accelerates skin cell turnover, allowing for the gradual resurfacing of the skin without the downtime of more aggressive treatment. The procedure lasts about 20 minutes. Results increase with successive treatments as improvement in skin texture is seen.
Several treatments are recommended, and may be done two to four weeks apart.
QUESTIONS OUR PATIENTS ASK US:
Which procedure is best--IPL or microdermabrasion?
Actually, the procedures accomplish different goals. IPL will reduce discoloration on the skin such as brown spots and spider veins (as well as reduce pore size and even the skin tone). Microdermabrasion gets rid of dead skin cells that tend to make the skin appear dull. A microdermabrasion treatment is an ideal way to prepare for an IPL treatment 2 weeks later, as we are able to get “closer” to the brown spot, spider veins because of the exfoliation. Microdermabrasion, however, is not recommended for patients with rosacea.
Does the treatment hurt?
Microdermabrasion is a pleasant experience. A hand held wand passes over the skin which emits crystals that polish your skin while suction removes dead skin cells. It is gentle, and our patients tell us they feel relaxed and rejuvenated after the treatment.
Can I wear make up after microdermabrasion?
It is best if you let your skin go without make up if possible for the rest of the day. A soothing post-procedure moisturizer is applied.
How often should I do the treatments?
Microdermabrasion is an ideal way to prepare for an IPL treatment two weeks later because the exfoliation allows us to get closer to the skin discoloration.
